The Glee Club has performed with music legends such as “The Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin, Grammy Award-winning opera soprano Jessye Norman, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, and recording artists Take 6. They participated with Stevie Wonder, Gloria Estefan, and Trisha Yearwood in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games held in Atlanta, Georgia. The Glee Club also performed the National Anthem with Natalie Cole for Super Bowl XXVIII and was featured in an American Family Insurance commercial with Grammy-winner Jennifer Hudson. Recording artists in their own right, the Glee Club is featured on the soundtracks of School Daze and Miracle at St. Anna, both of which are movies directed by Morehouse alumnus Spike Lee ‘79. The group sang at the funeral of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and for United States President Jimmy Carter’s inauguration and was featured on NBC’s #1 prime-time television program.
Maynard Jackson ‘56, Atlanta’s first Black mayor, was a member of the Morehouse College Glee Club, as was Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain ‘67.
