The Indianapolis Jazz Collective is an all-star group of Indy’s best and exists to present special guest soloists and notable jazz luminaries. The Collective is led by Indy Jazz Fest Artistic Director and saxophonist Rob Dixon. The group curates varied collaborations that have included Bobby Watson, Stefon Harris, Randy Brecker.
This special installment welcomes back to Indy, powerhouse trumpeter Pharez Whitted. An Indy native and torch bearer of the Hampton Family Band (Slide, Virtue, Aletra). Pharez has taken up shop in Chicago as a prolific performer and educator, and was recently named their “Jazz Musician of the Year.” His show at The Jazz Kitchen will be a nod to Indy’s own, the late, world-renowned trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, but presented in Pharez’ unique signature sound.
