Saxophonist David Bixler, bassist Dan Loomis and percussionist Fabio Rojas form a trio whose repertoire openly explores bebop, free, rock, and Venezuelan folkloric music without restraint or judgment. The repertoire is intended to be a statement that music is music; one genre is not higher or better than another, but that all music and culture is valid and deserves to have a seat at the table.
The band’s 2020 release, Inside the Grief, was a sonic response to the trifecta of 2020: COVID-19, systemic racism, and the presidential election. On this tour the group will be presenting new compositions from a recently recorded second recording, incognito ergo sum, which will be released later this year.
This eclectic trio is a product of the pandemic, formed at a moment in history when musicians were prevented by an invisible virus from playing their normal concerts and gigs and were seeking opportunities to create music in community. Slowly it was discovered that the parks of New York City provided both a safe space and an audience hungry for human creativity and quickly the parks became a safe space for the pursuit of music making.
