Oren celebrates the release of his EP "Grown Up Since Tuesday" with a program of original jazz songs and some of the songs that influenced him.
Oren Levine grew up with a love of music, especially jazz, inherited from his father. He started piano lessons as an eight-year-old in Washington, DC, and continued to play while earning two engineering degrees and building a career as an engineer and technology manager. He wrote his first song at age 45 in a summer jazz workshop and released his first album of original songs, “Making Up For Lost Time,” in 2018.
His song “Let’s Wander” from the album won him the 2023 ASCAP Foundation Alan and Marilyn Bergman Lyric Award. The title track won a Finalist award in the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. Oren’s songs have also been performed and recorded by Aaron Myers, Carolyn Malachi, Lionel Lyles, Tony Gudell, Barbara Papendorp, Donna Singer, and the DC-based funk/hip-hop band The Lucky So & Sos.
Oren continues to write songs and play jazz at venues in the DC area and on St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. His performances deliver positive, relaxed, swinging music rooted in the jazz tradition.
