Texas-based Jazz Crooner Ken Slavin returns for his third concert at The Triad, bringing his smooth voice and elegant style to its storied stage. Backed by a classic jazz trio, his new show shines a light on classic New York songs and jazz standards, as well as a few holiday favorites with a swinging twist. Ken has entertained across the country and overseas. He has opened for such music legends as Dee Dee Bridgewater and the Four Freshmen. And he always leaves the audience wanting more. Kick off this year's holiday season with an unforgettable evening of top-drawer entertainment!
Jazz crooner Ken Slavin is the number-one male jazz vocalist in South Texas and has developed a fan base around the world.
Although his smooth and intimate vocal style is often favorably compared to noted jazz vocalist Johnny Hartman or such legendary pop singers as Frank Sinatra, Matt Monro and Tony Bennett, he has steadfastly followed his own musical path, successfully finding a unique voice in a highly competitive industry.
The San Antonio Express-News describes him this way: “Ken Slavin is the most stylish, unwavering singer in town. He sings the Great American Songbook in a baritone timbre that resides somewhere between Chet Baker sweetness and Johnny Hartman’s husky silk. When it comes to crooning in the classic jazz/pop tradition, Ken Slavin has no peers.”
Ken’s dedication to his art and craft has paid off in many exciting ways. He has performed as far north as Alaska and Ireland, as far south as Mexico City, and just about everywhere in between. He has produced five critically acclaimed CDs. He’s a past voting member of The Recording Academy, which produces the GRAMMY Awards. His recordings are included on jazz radio playlists around the world. He’s a featured artist on cable TV’s “Singers and Swing” channel and on Spotify, Apple iTunes and other digital platforms. He is a popular performer at San Antonio’s Jazz’SAlive festival. He has sung with the San Antonio Symphony. He has opened for such jazz stars as The Four Freshmen, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Eddie Palmieri, David Sanborn and Chico Hamilton, and sang in concert with the internationally acclaimed Jim Cullum Jazz Band.
One of his proudest moments was when he made his New York City debut in 2013 at the famous Metropolitan Room and released a live CD of the show, "You Gotta Have Heart," to commemorate the occasion. He now returns to the Big Apple every year for both cabaret and jazz performances.
