Houston Children's Chorus

The Houston Children's Chorus presents their annual Spring Concert in the magnificent setting of the The Brockman Hall for Opera at Rice University. This concert will feature the 140 voices of the Chorus accompanied by an 18-piece orchestra. The first half of the concert will feature a new commissioned work, entitled “Lessons Learned From Kids” by Dallas composer, Heather Sorenson. Seven themes are presented in the work: Perseverance, Honesty, Consequences, Manners. Gratitude, and  Compassion. This presentation will be a “world premiere”! This work will also be presented at Carnegie Hall on June 22, 2025. Following an intermission, the Chorus will present songs from around the world entitled , “The World Is In This City!”. Celebrating the Chorus' unique cultural diversity, the selections will include songs sung in English, Spanish, Russian, Estonian, Italian, Mandarin, Japanese, Hebrew, Celtic and Serbian — all by memory! Choreography and international outfits will be the highlight of the second half of the concert.

The Houston Children's Chorus has been charming audiences since 1989. They have performed for the President of the United States on 34 occasions, including the World Economic Summit, the World Energy Congress, and the Republican Convention. They  are regularly featured with the Houston Symphony and can be heard singing the National Anthem for the Texans, the Rockets, the Astros, and the world's largest Rodeo.  Their cultural diversity in membership and repertoire has endeared them to citizens, corporations and foundations in the Houston metropolitan area. They are also considered Houston's “Small Ambassadors to the World” as they have presented concerts in Russia, New Zealand, China, Taiwan, Great Britain, Canada, and Europe. The Chorus is frequently featured in studio recordings and can be remembered for the Blue Bell Ice Cream commercial, SuperCuts, United Way, Gerber Baby Foods, and many others. They have also been featured in concerts with Celine Dion, Tommy Tune, Maureen McGovern, Shirley Jones, Dionne Warwick, The Beach Boys, Christopher Cross, Reba McIntyre, the Gatlin Brothers, and many other celebrities.

The Spring Concert on May 4th will last approximately one hour and 15 minutes.  Due to professional recording, please do not bring children under age 5. Video and Audio recording is strictly prohibited.
