"Heart of a Troubadour, vol 2". A nod to the guy singers of the last century that entertained, moved, and influenced me and so many others: Hartman, Mathis, Benton, Bennett, Eckstine, Sammy, O.C. Smith, Jarreau, to name a few. Spanning genres: jazz, blues, classic r&b, latin-brazilian and more.
Steve Washington has been performing for more than 40 years with humble beginnings in Princeton Uni-versity singing groups and theatrical productions. After Princeton, Steve performed professionally in local and regional professional theatre. A highlight was working under the direction of world-renowned producer Cameron Mackintosh in a production of “Hey, Mr. Producer.” Shifting focus to music, Steve began culti-vating a jazz-infused body of work resulting in an eclectic mix of jazz, big band, rhythm & blues, jazz-funk, and the sound of Brazil and presented at the area’s most popular venues including Blues Alley, the Atlas Theater, the Carlyle Club, Mr. Henry’s, the Katzen Arts Center, AJACs, the Carlyle, etc. Along the way, Steve enjoyed more than a decade headlining on the world’s finest cruise ships with his one-man shows “Nat & Sammy Remembered” and “Rhythm, Blues & Broadway.” In the last 15 years or so, Steve has sharpened his focus on jazz & big band, and in late 2015 released “Right to Love” featuring the Thad Wilson Jazz Orchestra. A full-house CD Release at the famed Metropolitan Room in NYC followed and resulted in an invitation to perform quarterly the following year. In 2018, appearances beyond the DMV included a couple of month-long tours in Russia resulting in “SkyLark,” a 2018 CD recorded in Moscow. In 2020, Steve performed three live-stream concerts courtesy of Blue House Studio’s “Covid Sessions” series. In 2023, Steve opened the 2023 Wilmington NC Jazz Festival and the following week Steve ap-peared at the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival in Rockville MD with the Thad Wilson Jazz Orchestra. Steve is also a featured vocalist with Newmyer Flyer productions and as such has appeared at the Barns at Wolf Trap, the Birchmere Music Hall, Hamilton Live, and the Bethesda Theater. With four-plus decades of en-tertaining under his belt, Steve Washington is as busy as ever and continues to share his unique mixture of genres with audiences throughout the DMV and beyond.
