As the second installment of the Good Mourning Project, Marlin McKay pays homage to one of his first musical heroes through the compositions, unreleased material, and classic standards favored by, legendary jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove.

Roy Hargrove was a highly influential jazz trumpeter renowned for his exceptional technical skill, powerful tone, and ability to seamlessly blend hard bop with other genres like hip-hop and soul. He garnered critical acclaim, winning two Grammy Awards, and inspired countless musicians with his innovative approach to jazz.

McKay, a fellow Texas native, is known for his love and in-depth knowledge of the hard bop tradition and will explore the softer side of Roy, a Young Lion, who also primarily played in the hard bop style for the majority of his albums, but had a penchant for genre-crossing exploration and collaboration with a variety of hip hop, soul, R&B and alternative rock artists.
