Four players, and a sound that swings, grooves, and speaks. Guitar, vibes, bass, and drums—each voice distinct, but all connected. Plenty of chops, but no need to prove it. Just pushing the music forward with deep listening and deep time.
Baron Tymas plays guitar with conviction. His tone is warm, his lines honest, his touch burnished on the bandstand. He knows when to speak and when to stay out of the way, letting the music breathe while carrying the soul of the tune.
Brandon Mitchell plays vibraphone with both fire and patience. Chords ring and fade like memory, his lines flowing with space and shape. He finds the melody inside the groove, and then gives it room to settle in.
Damon Brown, on upright and electric bass, plays with clarity and weight. His sound is full and steady, rooted in the blues but open to the unknown. He listens hard, speaks with authority, and keeps the pulse with strength and grace.
Thomas Taylor is the drummer. He’s a traveler, a teacher, an instigator who knows how to make the rhythm dance. His time is deep, his colors wide, and when he locks in, the whole band lifts.
This music stretches and comes from jazz. It swings and isn’t afraid of the edge. The sound is raw and refined, melodic and muscular, full of colors you don’t hear every day.
On June 7 at Sharp 9, the Baron Tymas Quartet will bring a night of rhythm, melody, heat and motion. Not too many tricks, just enough flash. Music that means something.
