The Green Room Trio was formed out of a love of jazz and friendship between the three members. Isabelle and Ray were original members of “No Time Five” that began playing together again upon moving to Baltimore. Abi performed with Ray multiple times during their conservatory years, and together the three formed a new jazz trio called “The Green Room Trio” inspired by the excitement before a performance and the lighthearted fun of making and sharing music with friends. They made their debut at the Oak Crest Summit Concert Series "Basie to Bublé" in the summer of 2024.
Ray Steelman seeks to bring life to the stage just as they feel brilliantly alive on it. Singing brings Ray innate joy as a performer, debuting with the principal role “Dido” in Dido & Aeneas with the St. Mary’s College of Maryland music department in 2019. They enjoyed time gigging with their jazz combo, “No Time Five,” from 2019 to 2021, was a guest artist with the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Jazz Band and the Chesapeake Jazz Band, and performed at the U.S. National Oyster Festival in 2019. Ray earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Bachelor of Science in Psychology at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in 2021. They then moved to Baltimore and performed with the Peabody Opera Department in Cendrillon in 2022, and premiered multiple new works including “Zwischenspiel” and “Yet When the Sun Downfalls” in 2023 and 2022 respectively. After earning a Master’s of Music from the Peabody Institute, Ray went on to perform the principal role of “Aline” in The Sorcerer with the Victorian Lyric Opera Company in 2023. Ray continues to performing locally in the Baltimore and DC areas and teaches voice at Music on the Hill in DC and the School of Rock in Columbia.
Isabelle Harsch is a 25-year old composer and pianist. She grew up in North Carolina, spending high school participating in every band-related extracurricular her school had to offer. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Music at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, then attended University of North Carolina Greensboro and received a Master of Arts in Music Composition. Throughout her education, she studied orchestration and arrangement, practiced and performed classical and jazz piano, and spent her free time self-teaching and creating electronic music styled after the music of video game consoles from the 80’s and 90’s, which she shares online. For her thesis project required to complete her Master’s degree, she released an hour-long concept album of entirely original music, telling a story about gender and identity. She is currently living in Baltimore, working as a piano teacher at Baltimore School of Music, and as a freelance video game composer.
Abi Koehler is a bassist, teacher and recording artist in Baltimore. Equally at home as an orchestral musician, chamber musician, and soloist, Abi regularly performs in local orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo recitals, and jazz/rock/pop ensembles in the Baltimore/DC area. She loves working with modern composers and performing contemporary music, as well as exploring historical performance on the viola da gamba. She is a recipient of the National Orchestra and Bass Works Filles de Contrebasse Award. Abi studies with Nina Decesare and Ira Gold at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where she graduated with a BM in Bass Performance and Recording Arts and is now in her last year as an MA in Audio Sciences.
