BLAZZ -bluesy jazz/jazzy blues has been playing around the DMV since the band formed during the pandemic. BLAZZ focuses on jazz rooted in the blues and blues tunes with a swing or “jump” rhythm. But BLAZZ also brings a diverse song list to our sets with Bossa, deep blues, jazz standards, plus some lyrics in Spanish or French! You will also hear songs composed by band members.
Vocalist Howard Blu brings the diatonic harmonica, or “blues harp,” to the stage. Yes, this is a common instrument in blues, but Howard brings it to many of the band’s jazz presentations, which is very unusual.
The other band members are Thomas Kitchen, guitar; Phil Ravita, bass; Greg Small, piano; John Stonesifer, drums.
You may recognize their names as they are active in the DMV in other ensembles as well.
