Zachary Catalano is a dedicated and versatile saxophonist whose musical journey is driven by a deep passion for connection, healing, and artistic expression. From a young age, Zak recognized the power of music to move people emotionally and bring people together. That belief has shaped every step of his path as a musician.
Zak currently studies at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University under the mentorship of acclaimed saxophonist Tim Green. Zak is refining his technical abilities and expanding his artistic voice. Beyond traditional concert halls, Zak brings his music directly to the community. He has played in jazz trios and quartets around the tri-state area of New York. Zak has played at venues such as Ornithology Jazz Club in Brooklyn, New York, and the Pittsfield City Jazz Festival in Massachusetts. His performances include benefit events, such as fundraising efforts for Ukraine relief and contributions to local events, church services, and community celebrations.
Zak interprets new originals and arrangements of nostalgic music from his childhood and performs his own interpretations of quintessential jazz songs. He brings a classic jazz quintet experience inspired by the chemistry and energy of bands like the first Miles Davis quintet, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, and Vincent Herring and Eric Alexander’s work.
