A gifted and award-winning vibraphonist, composer, and producer, San Francisco native Sasha Berliner brings her music to the stage of An die Musik Live. Berliner began on drums at eight and attended the Oakland School for the Arts, studying with Howard Wiley and Dave Ellis before becoming a two-year member of the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars Orchestra, performing with the Monterey Jazz Festival Next Generation Jazz Orchestra and Stanford Jazz Workshops.

Now based in New York, Berliner was a student of Stefon Harris, Chris Dingman, and Matt Wilson at the New School and is an active bandleader, heading a series of superlative ensembles.

She has collaborated with Beck, Vijay Iyer, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ravi Coltrane, Nicholas Payton, Christian McBride, Tyshawn Sorey, and Cécile McLorin Salvant and released her full-length debut album, Azalea, in 2019 — a recording that received a “Best New Release” nomination in the JazzTimes Readers’ Poll.

The youngest artist and first woman to win the DownBeat Critics’ Poll for Rising Star Vibraphonist, Berliner has received numerous grants, funding her audacious 2022 release Onyx, and her latest album of quintet and septet performances, Axial, features fellow Bay Area-raised luminaries Taylor Eigsti on keyboards and bassist Harish Raghavan.
