Charles Covington, jazz organist and pianist, was one of the trailblazers playing jazz on the Hammond B3 organ back in the early 60’s who influenced and inspired most of the leading jazz organists during that period including Lou Bennett, Jimmy Smith, Larry Young Jr., Richard Groove Holmes, Don Patterson and many others. Since he refused to record under his own name during that period, he remained largely unknown except in the jazz organ circle, until recently when he was rediscovered. Covington has recorded and/or performed with scores of jazz greats such as Sonny Stitt, Gene Ammons, Eddie Harris, Milt Jackson, Clark Terry, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vincent, Zoot Simms, George Benson, and many others including comedians Redd Fox, Pigmeat Markham, Slappy White, Flip Wilson; also vocalists such as Abbey Lincoln, Eartha Kitt, Shirley Horn and Ethel Ennis among others.

Influenced by the classical and popular music Joe DeCara has developed a unique jazz sound by fusing various styles and genres. The use of counterpoint, harmony, contrary motion and other devices blend and reflect the exploration of modern jazz concepts with traditional form, giving DeCara his innovative style. Fascinated with the richness of chords and scales and the many possible arrangements and permutations of notes, he was soon attracted to the art of improvisation and explored the world of jazz. In Los Angeles DeCara spent valuable time with jazz greats, Joe Pass, Lenny Breau, Ted Greene, Joe Diorio and Dennis Budimir. Budimir introduced DeCara to some of the major recording studios and the seeds of his passion for songwriting, arranging and production were sown.

Philadelphia native Robert E. Shahid studied drums in high school and, after graduating from Florida A&M University, later founded The New Philadelphia Jazz Quintet. He has performed with Nat Adderly, Rufus Harley, Red Prysock, The Fabulous Emotions, Bobby Timmons, Percy Mayfield, Melton Mustafa, and has been invited to sit in or share the stage with countless others. He has been instrumental in performing for and encouraging youth to pursue their musical interests. Robert believes, “The language of music has been the most consistent common denominator for the sharing of appreciation for the gift of life.”
