Ian Wardenski is a theorist, composer, guitarist, and educator. As a composer and guitarist, Ian is celebrated for his harmonic aesthetic, which has been described as “warm and complex with colorizations that reflect the modern jazz idiom” – Nolan DeBuke, The Jazz Word.
Wardenski’s current compositions continue to make use of traditional elements, while simultaneously intertwining textural components, such as clusters and bands of sounds. His immersion in rhythm is also on display, as he continues to explore alternative systems for rhythmic organization. These composition techniques are showcased on Wardenski’s second album, Trust, which was released in Spring 2022.
Wardenski is Chair of Performing Arts, and is an Associate Professor of Music at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md. He teaches courses in music theory, composition, sight singing and ear training, jazz harmony, jazz history, and guitar. Ian is also the music director for the AACC Small Jazz Combo, as well as the AACC World Class Jazz series. Ian currently resides in Annapolis, Md., with his wife, soprano Tamara Tucker.
